Memory

Memory

A Poem by Sam Freeland
"

for later

"

The way you train your brain

during the early years

Will be the person you are

when your life switches gears

Trying to follow a plan

aided by those who know

Is the best way to proceed

just be careful and go slow

Rushing through your time

will end up being such a waste

Leave that to the others

those who rush have bad taste

Learn the value of the classics

that have stood the test of time

No good will ever come to you

savoring the pleasures of crime

Reflecting upon my past

my good choices have value now

Too bad there were not more

in the area of learning how

Everyone will be limited

by what they did not learn

A greater limitation for those

not learning the value of concern

Bad memories will be an albatross

to haunt your later days

The ways you have helped others

are memories that pays and pays

Whatever you have practiced

is the sum total of what you did

No one escapes this memory

because the truth cannot be hid
