Water

Water

A Poem by Sam Freeland
"

for life

"

Water we have consumed

no longer visible to the eye

Keeps our cells living

and without it they die

Continuous loss from the skin

no matter what you do

Drying out the skin cells

and keeping you cool too

If the cells couldn't replicate

you would soon feel very weak

Nothing would protect the body

and everything would leak

Since thirst is a brain's response

we know it is water that we need

Should we ever get too little

the blood will clot instead of bleed

Plain water is the best drink

but its flavor is kind of bland

Adding a little lime can help

even though its not grand

If it is made any sweeter

there will be problems ahead

We will habitually choose

the sweeter beverages instead

The sucrose sweeteners

are a poison to our health

They make people more obese

and bring bottlers more wealth

Obesity in many of the young

occurs before they are aware

They join half the population

you would think we didn't care

Thirst and a sweet tooth habit

shortens the life of every cell

Mainly because of the way

candy and sweet drinks sell
