Environs

Environs

A Poem by Sam Freeland
"

our home

"
It may be hard to accept
the accident of our birth
Not always beginning
with parental joy and mirth

Our parents were not choosers
of every place and time
They had to live and share
exigencies of their special clime

When everything was rosy
they knew how lucky they were
We also enjoyed the benefit
and that is for sure

If their life was hard scrabble
it is what we also had to face
The environment we live with
controls every time and place

Don't cry about the hard times
it means more you must do
To keep yourself well
and of course your family too

The easy life is for slackers
who took for granted what they got
They will suffer more in hard times
when they don't get a lot

Every living animal species
of which we are one
Gets to live in an environment
and it isn't always fun

Mariners like to say
stiffen your upper lip
Reality is what we get
on this or any ship

The poem tell a true story. Few are born to a easy life. Most must dance and twist to find peace and calmness. Last lines were my favorite. Great wisdom by the Mariners. Thank you for the outstanding poem.
