Argument

Argument

A Poem by Sam Freeland
"

to nowhere

"
An argument starts
with someone's need
Opposed by another
seeing it as greed

Both points of view
disagree from the start
Making both blind
keeping them apart

If they are ever to reach
understanding and friendship
One of them must realize
the value of kinship

Adopting a tone
of quietly spoken speech
The argument can soften
and begin to fill the breech

When the other hears softness
it seems like an argument won
The beginning of understanding
before they are both undone

Resolution is now possible
to begin the cure
The difference has less value
agreement seeming more pure

This evaluation of an argument
hints that no one can win
Relationships can be lasting
when arguments don't begin

This situation was no argument
it was more about a solution
The way to better friendship
should be our resolution
