Judgements

Judgements

A Poem by Sam Freeland
"

we make

"
Birds of A Feather

Believing it wasn't racial profiling
is a fallacy too many espouse
What they fail to understand
it began in their very own house

The brain is filled with memories
reinforced by what we see
Those first few years changed us
to be what we always would be

Our environment had a pattern
repeatedly normal for us
Controlling our likes and dislikes
even what we could discuss

You know how actors are chosen
for all the movies we've seen
Their appearance must fit the story-line
whether pawn, king or queen

Even juries are selected
to support the legal case
With as many jurors chosen
being of the defendant's race

Challenging a juror's background
is often and likely done
Any good lawyer would do the best
to see that the case is won

The problem is we cannot know
all the prejudice in our mind
Created there for so many years
controlling how we will find

The more we learn about truth
better judgments we will make
Taking every opportunity
to give everyone else a break
