Living Longer

Living Longer

A Poem by Sam Freeland
"

is better

"
Born with cells and DNA
some long-lived some are not
Do your best every day
they are all that you have got

The DNA will be changing
as the cells are known to do
With each day the environment
has many changes too

What happens in youngest cells
gets replicated again and again
Depending on the environment
because that is where you've been

DNA improves for some
in the beginning its not choice
That is why not everyone
has longer to rejoice

Aging brings new conditions
with more power to choose
Therein lies the difference
of a longer life to win or lose

Forget about the accidents
they happen to everyone
If they were always predictable
everyone would have won

Read widely to choose better
there are secrets to be learned
Your DNA will reap the benefit
with a longer life to be returned

Noticeable in those who last
many more of them are wise
They spent more time learning
that's why they win the prize
