Golf

A Poem by Sam Freeland
"

a healthy sport

"
Winning and Losing

Playing to win in golf
has an advantage some have found
Being close behind near the end
can give results very sound

The effect upon the leader
may put their winning in doubt
A serious charge being made
is what the concern is all about

In the desire to stay ahead
tension will often increase
Instead of playing one's own game
their clear focus will cease

Observers will see this happen
and may wonder why this is true
But it shows how your focus
will influence what you do

Experience in losing this way
can help older golfers play the game
They know that losing their focus
is the major problem to blame

Golf competition is the rare sport
where aging may help you win
Though no one can discount
the condition their body is in

Playing can help staying healthy
as we see in those who have won
You can also pass on what you know
to a daughter or a son

Enjoyment of the competition
played with rules that are fair
Its a game that encourages interest
and why so many care
