Food Supply

Food Supply

A Poem by Sam Freeland
"

especially for the children

"
Good food is in short supply
as many of us already know
Countless children will still starve
when there is no food to grow

Family size can still grow
with the limited food supply
When so many children perish
no one should be asking why

All living organisms must eat
whatever food they can find
With too little food for survival
many will then be left behind

China faced this problem years ago
with a limit of children to be born
There was not a sufficient food supply
to feed the children in the morn

Today with a better economy
they can buy all the food they need
They have relaxed the family restrictions
so more children they can now feed

It has taken some time for the world
to understand this inescapable truth
It was always so hard on the children
who would never reach their youth

Those who think we are not included
in the disaster so many will face
Probably find plenty they can eat
and the problem was only due to race

The question is always what can we do
be responsible for what you can handle
No one can ever hope to survive
by burning both ends of the candle
