Competition

Competition

A Poem by Sam Freeland
"

for life

"
Brain cells contain the record
of the way primates advance
Their steady continued development
was beyond being only by chance

From the earliest way to get protein
with a handy branch for a tool
Cells gained a slight advantage
as they joined the genetic pool

Termites devoted their bodies
as other arthropods have done
By eating these tiny insects
primates change in diet had begun

Success of the living depends
always on the food they find to eat
If the food has plenty of protein
it is more important than a treat

We reject the label of animal
but fail to deny our being a primate
We also get the sexual advantage
and the need to control our hate

As we take these changes in stride
we can see the way to win
Forget those who choose to call it
just another primate sin

Join the competition if you are able
you may think of a good new plan
Anyone contented to just sit there
will only become another fan

The world hopes you will compete
and use your brain for something more
No matter what others believe
that is what competition is for

For me - this is a very powerful expression of what lies at the core of existence and evolution.

I'm not an expert on form, so I won't be able to comment on that.
