with a purpose

By planning ahead
it will suggest and maybe prove
To anyone who will listen
your are still in the groove

 

You will not be counted
as being no longer here
The muse sponsoring this poem
has very little to fear

 

We all last as long
as our awareness does
And then before we know it
we are someone who was

 

To postpone this time
there is writing we can do
Including the best memories
we know that were true

 

Give them the best slant
that occupies your dreams
Good people will prefer it
at least that's how it seems

 

The new plan includes
some others who like to write
Their efforts are filled
with sensitive insight

 

It is best to stop living
those memories of the past
The world is moving forward
and the future has been cast

 

What we write about today
will show how we did our part
It was never about trying
to pretend being smart
