Past, Present and Future

Past, Present and Future

A Poem by Sam Freeland
"

human history

"
Our DNA from the past
in each and every cell
Replicates continually
as long as we are well

In the many traits we develop
some of the past can be seen
Even the shape of our torso
becoming fat, healthy or lean

We do our best to maintain it
the mirror says how we look
We can add or subtract from the mass
helped by the food we cook

Hunger drives for more weight
exercise is a way to have less
Its a balance we need for health
in our effort to have success

Men develop two different sperm
though all have similar DNA
Half to be larger and strong
the rest more sensitive and gay

Women of course have the eggs
which all have the same DNA
When an egg and a sperm combine
a human might live here some day

Everyone will soon see the difference
and if they get the care they need
The children will be strong and healthy
both boys and girls will succeed

Since you have been part of this story
as an adult you know what you should do
Give your help to these new humans
so they can learn to be loving and true
