Sad

Sad

A Poem by Sam Freeland
"

deal with it

"
When we see a face downcast
avoid saying "don't be sad"
The effort will do little good
and may even be seen as bad

If they hear us mention sad
they are reminded of their pain
They may have just lost a friend
and get no help from our refrain

Rather speak of good times
that you and they can share
Keeping it on a positive note
is the best way to exhibit your care

Loss is a major event of living
deserving respectful attention
Reminding a sad person of the event
is one of the worst things you can mention

One's weakness is measured by pain
but denial is a factor of strength
The strong will show this with bravery
and they will take it to any length

Courage and strength are no accident
they take many years to learn
This behavior is a rarity in any society
and this a cause of great concern

Giving everyone too much protection
is the best way to make people weak
The ability to fight for survival
is less about turning the other cheek

We know our society will get weaker
by depending on others for defense
When all take part in our protection
we have the only plan that makes sense
