Poisons

Poisons

A Poem by Sam Freeland
"

more are everywhere

"
Environment in a chemical world
has problems not well known
When studies are carefully done
it shows how the hazards have grown

Manufacturing finds the best way
to keep the cost of packaging low
This leads to the chemicals used
affecting even the way we grow

Heating a container made with PBA
can transfer this poison to our daily fare
We ingest the poison with the food
not knowing it was even in there

There is a clue that we could use
don't use plastics made with PBA
As in triangle recycle codes 7 and 3
codes 1, 2 and 4 may be okay

If we stop the use of all plastics
that touch the food of the day
Cook with cast iron and stainless
for meals safer in every way

No one will know for sure
what organic actually means
Did no poisons fall in the rain
on the lettuce and the green beans?

We will likely ingest some poisons
from a food handler or from the air
But washing our hands more often
is the best way we can take care

Our behavior is really the enemy
with worry a big problem too
Being as careful as we can be
it is the best plan for us to do
