Pain

Pain

A Poem by Sam Freeland
"

the body's cry for help

"
Everyone feels pain's discomfort
how it's described is not well understood
Pain you have felt in your past
has a description that is not very good

The personal nature of your pain
translates poorly to what others may feel
It is better to listen to what they say
since that is more likely to be real

For a feeling most commonly reported
it deserves our serious attention
The impact on health care for millions
is greater than anyone could mention

Pain can be treated with a placebo
or with an expensive type of cure
Money that is usually wasted
paying 'big Pharma' and that is for sure

Take an aspirin and call me in the morning
has often been said in the past
It may help with headache or stroke
but your call will not be the last

Using a scale of zero to ten
shows a nurse's or a doctor's skill
With patients who have some intelligence
it is better than just prescribing a pill

For those refusing to talk about pain
they may be 'living on borrowed time'
It is better to talk to a professional
and see tomorrow's sun shine

Read how the Internet describes pain
to understand what you need to know
Your real pain should not be ignored
to do so is not the way to go
