Sports Interview

Sports Interview

A Poem by Sam Freeland
"

and the critic

"
Questions you are asked
its better to tell the truth
Hopefully the practice
taught to every youth

If questions cause despair
in the way that you feel
Every judgement made
 has a possible repeal

Watch for hidden meanings
in the questions they ask
Good interviews have them
its part of the interviewer's task

When the interview shows
there is something you haven't done
It gives them  justification for saying
that is why you haven't won

Asking pointed questions
is what the critic tries to do
Your answers will tell his listeners
 so much more about you

A good plan for you to follow
 is not answering right away
Your pause will bring attention
to whatever you have to say

By taking this chance
to defend what you do
It will help other players
play a better game too

Playing the game to win
is the winner's way to play
You will probably want to add
that is why you won today
