Our Game

Our Game

A Poem by Sam Freeland
"

play well

"

Life is our game
something new every day
Be glad for the opportunity
that you get to play

We will never know
what other worlds may do
It is not that important
for either me or you

Anyone wishing
to play their game well
Should give it all they've got
before they ring the bell

The sound may chime
on that coming day
Telling all within earshot
that we knew how to play

Our goal should not be fame
that makes the bell chime
Its the example of our effort
and how we spent our time

So get up off your duff
and make the day worthwhile
You will be glad that you did
and you will earn your smile

If you fail this test
of what you could do
A frown on your face
will be what is left of you

Smiles are for those
who have played the game well
What happens after you are gone
is the story people will tell
