Happy Birthday

Happy Birthday

A Poem by Sam Freeland
"

Kathy

"
I guess it is fifty two
my greeting to you this Sunday
It is the least that I could do
and one way to say

Your visit meant a lot
not that it was deserved
But it warmed my aging heart
I couldn't have been better served

What you have done so well
for so many years
Has filled me with a bit of pride
and never any tears

As you probably know
simple poetry has helped me face
The years we weren't together
in a more happy place

I don't ask to be forgiven
for the time I wasn't there
But I hope you know
there wasn't a moment I didn't care

Life is a struggle
and we never know what's next
We just have to do our best
not always what others expect

I have learned to be happy
with how your Mother helped you
Often in so many ways
I wasn't able to do

Now you have Jeff and Sam
to make your life more complete
The family you have earned
could never be beat

love, Dad
