ARIZONA

ARIZONA

A Poem by Sam Freeland
"

a reminder

"
Events in Arizona remind us
of something we should know
Surprising things can happen to us
these words should prove it is so

Each day we venture forth
believing we will return
It doesn't happen to everyone
it may not be our turn

Having lived days of years so happily
we expect many more to come
It will take care and plenty of luck
for anyone who still wants some

Since you may not ever be here again
when a horrible thing takes place
What message would you want to leave
to loved ones having your loss to face

If you think about this carefully
what you say will tell why you were here
What you wanted while you were living
and especially what you hold dear

Writing these statements regularly
will be a reminder for us too
Putting down our plans for our future
is a way to make them come true

This poem was primarily written
to remind me and you of a truth
We are looking forward to being older
no one wanted to end as a youth

It took me all of my eighty one years
to fully appreciate what it means to live
This I can say is my message
in the words I wanted to give
