Mean and Ugly

Mean and Ugly

A Poem by Sam Freeland

The ugly and the mean
with their power and smash
Have now made the scene
making their opponents crash

Without any awareness
that this was done before
It  was life in the jungle
lived in days of yore

History gets repeated
because humans are the same
Suffering minimal changes
for those looking for the blame

Universally short sighted
in space so wide
In every environment
there is nowhere to hide

Goodness and beauty
have given life some peace
But they are the prisoners
the ugly won't release

They beat on each other
trying to draw blood
Smashing their enemy
and landing with a thud

It is a kind of behavior
the young soon learn
Getting pleasure from bullying
having no concern

There is a partial solution
if only for a few
Read or write a story
about what you would rather do
