The Beat Goes On

The Beat Goes On

A Poem by Sam Freeland
"

what will you do?

"

Give it some help
the heartbeat, you know
Not too fast
and not too slow

If you are reading this
you may be okay
Let's hope you can do this
for many a day

You can look forward
to a life of many years
If you give yourself the help
that will chase away the tears

Many hearts have been known
to beat six million times
That's for seventy years
that the sun still shines

What would you like to have
because its mainly up to you
Depending primarily
on what you choose to do

Eating right you can control
which surely you must know
Frequent exercise is required
not too strenuous and not too slow

If none of this matters
we know what you will get
It won't be a long life
and that's a safe bet

So get your act together
and do what you need to do
Your heart will beat longer
and that is certainly true too
