Lifetime

Lifetime

A Poem by Sam Freeland
"

endgame

"
Each and every living organism
has one life to call its own
How it spends this time living
will likely not be known

Even humans can't recall
all the mistakes they have made
Which shorten their time of life
due to rules not obeyed

The rules for living a long life
may never be shared with us
Octogenarians may not even know
and so are unable to discuss

If you ever reach that age
and try to understand the rules
You may learn for yourself
that all humans are fools

We are fooled into thinking
we have a lot more time
So we waste it every day
and that is our crime

If someone should point out
the problems of these acts
The critic will be told
they don't know the facts

Even doctors can't succeed
when they try to help us live
We don't even want to listen
to the help they can give

The only thing left to do
is enjoy our days here
Our time will soon be over
we'll have nothing more to fear

Your words are great wisdom. No reason to be swimming in misery for mistakes made. Better to had learn to be kinder and smarter. Life is very short. I swear the years zips by and now I'm a old man looking back in the mirror. But it is alright to be older. I have my kids and grand kids to keep me young. I like the ending. A outstanding poem.
