Word Merchants

Word Merchants

A Poem by Sam Freeland
"

labors of life

"
Poetry is information
written for a special few
Seeking fame and fortune
writing is what we do

The hours spent composing
are work that we enjoy
A serious kind of labor
for readers who will employ

Labor chosen by humans
is their form of work
Hoping to receive some payment
for efforts lacking shirk

What these words imply
is certainly nothing new
Take a moment to consider
it is what you also do

We try and fail repeatedly
though sometimes we win
When truth lies in our actions
our success will begin

We know about rejection
and everyone else does too
Failure comes from giving up
saying we are through

Efforts fulfilling a need
are very much in demand
No shortage will ever exist
when workers take a stand

Let what you do for labor
give others what they need
Payment will be more than praise
the best way to succeed
