Poetry

A Poem by Sam Freeland
"

writing about life

"

Images expressed in a poem

echo what the poet feels

Chosen to help the reader

grasp what the poem reveals

Expressions make better sense

to readers who understand

Words they find familiar

without their being bland

Anger vented in poetry

is usually out of place

Kindness and love give warmth

as they put on their happy face

Poets who give life

to memories of their past

Share themselves with readers

and make their connection last

Avatars that can help the reader

feel empathy and goodwill

Contribute to good poetry

and express the poet's skill

Rhyming aids the flow

making the lines easier to read

Though some unfamiliar words

may do their best to impede

A balance is the best

giving readers what they need

Clarity is thus imparted

helping the poem succeed

When a poem can accomplish

what a poet sets out to do

It gives pleasure to the reader

and hopefully this includes you
