Eternity

Eternity

A Poem by Sam Freeland
"

time will tell

"
Humans beguiled
to think life is just one trip
To deny there is no more
is giving up the ship

Second chances are given
to failures as we speak
Who are without a paddle
when going up the creek

No one ever came back
without fiction being their tale
Happily subscribed to
by so many lives that fail

Hope works very well
when applied to tomorrow
Extending it to forever
is a sure path to sorrow

The moments just ahead
will not be forgotten
To ask for anything more
is a path for the rotten

Getting busy with now
is the best way to win
More is for the greedy
an unpardonable sin

The present is eternal
history explains the facts
For those who came before
bravery describes their acts

Good works are not forgotten
they are models for the young
Best repeated by them
when your last song is sung
