Humanity

Humanity

A Poem by Sam Freeland
"

for some

"

humans

some have a spirit

others have a soul

for both you know

the body hangs out below

spirit has more elan

soul enables prayer

good minds have both

somewhere in there

how we use our mind

is really who we are

being constructive

is much better by far

we need to stay busy

writing and inventing

exhibiting our patience

sometimes consenting

an open mind can learn

from everything we do

a careful study of nature

creates understanding too

study of animal behavior

is a mirror of how we live

to become a better animal

we must learn how to give

using our human intelligence

to improve the way we act

we become more caring people

who treat others with more tact

the route to a civilized society

is never an easy one

if we learn to share with others

our task has just begun

the formula for civilization

is very difficult to achieve

the only way it will happen

is when many more believe
