Adapt

Adapt

A Poem by Sam Freeland
"

with change

"

It is patently a fact

intelligence prefers change

what we do with our life

determines our range

Boredom is the enemy

of an active mind

though more of friend

to those left behind

By reaching out

to the world around

the mind learns steadily

as it becomes more sound

In seeking the truth

we can find what we need

no longer a dependent youth

we will be the one to lead

Wisdom doesn't come

from just sitting still

it takes an active effort

and requires a strong will

Where must we begin

in this effort so bold

first it will be necessary

to reject the lies we are told

Beware of the ad that promises

you can work and stay at home

likely only a scam

to leave one out in the cold alone

What paid for the ad

offering so much help to you

was the small fee they required

and other hidden expenses too

over

Find a responsible agency

that gets paid for the people they place

if you really have something to offer

a good future is what you will face

This is a true story of my past

and I tell it because it is true

take time in your search for work

and there is more hope for you, too

Any time someone wants to give you something free (or the deal of a lifetime), it costs. That may be more true of government largess and programs than anything else (Beware of the taxman and VAT). Your story is told nicely. Often, poetry is not used for such pointed lessons, but why not? You established a rhythm, did pretty well with the rhyming sequence, and the thread (thought from befinning to end) was intact. So, good work. Keep it up.
