Youth

Youth

A Poem by Sam Freeland
"

and the future

"
The patterns of our youth
our mind and body will repeat
The best avenue to survival
which rarely can be beat

Any change made too soon
 finds another set of rules
Except in accidental cases
the practice is for fools

When the body gets strong
after a decade of success
Individuality benefits growth
while following gives less

A mind facing challenge
begins an upward climb
In a healthy environment
many future bells will chime

This account is oft repeated
in lives enjoying the best
Sadly not always shared
by so many of the rest

History has shown the way
that humans have lived and died
Longevity giving some help
to those with bravery inside

Bravery is a part of sacrifice
that has often led to fame
By honoring those efforts
more will do the same

We all get one choice
in this complex universe
Try to find some happiness
without it life will be worse

Loved it, enjoyed it.

I loved these two stanzas especially. Fantastic and wonderful. Easy to relate to! great job.

Ah, this is very true. I love the ending, about finding happiness~ To me, that is the whole purpose of life, without it, it is a life wasted. Not really wasted, but a sad one, that could've been much better had the person only tried.
This poem lifts me up. =] Not to say I've made the best choices or been the healthiest person. Honestly, most of my decisions have served only to cause more trouble for myself and more strife in the end. But always hearing reminders of what doing well can help, it makes me want to try to make a first step towards progress rather than regress.
Your poem flowed beautifully, with an upward tone, fitting it perfectly. I loved it =]
