Hunger

Hunger

A Poem by Sam Freeland
"

and our food

"
All living things are foodies
looking for something to eat
From the virus to the elephant
the act of eating can't be beat

We know it is necessary
for any organism to live
If there is food available
the food has life to give

Whatever we eat is our diet
which is good or bad for us
It is talked about everywhere
a subject we like to discuss

Everyone has likely noticed
how food determines our shape
What has happened to many humans
their body shape resembles the ape

This couldn't be more natural
ape-like humans breathed our air
We have found the DNA we have
is similar to what primates share

DNA was changed by the environment
it happened to every living thing
Giving colors everyone can see
also affecting the songs we sing

Our food is our environment
we eat what is easiest to get
The diet of our early years
is how our choices are set

Changes seldom happen
in whatever we like to do
Our past will often be repeated
for me and probably for you
