Taste

Taste

A Poem by Sam Freeland
"

and our choices

"
The memory of taste
is a powerful force
As early humans found
it was a saving resource

Our mind records
what we are given to learn
Once it is stored there
it becomes our concern

What we learn in infancy
affects choices we will make
As it determines our future
and likely the path we take

For a person to live well
this had best take place
It has occurred for centuries
in the human race

While most start savoring
 tastes the breast can give
The flavors in our early food
help us choose the way we live

We all enjoy the comfort
of memories in our happy past
Forever trying to repeat them
in our effort to make life last

If the first foods we eat
are what our healthy kin prefer
The nutrition will make us strong
and like them we will endure

Life is too short we are well aware
good choices will extend our days
By showing others that we care
it will help us in many ways

This is an excellent piece of poetry with a wonderful message. The rhyme did not seemed forced and the logical progression seemed to flow quite well.
