Balance

Balance

A Poem by Sam Freeland
"

past versus present

"

To see some good
in what other men know
Do what you should
or just be seen as slow

This means putting aside
any blind partiality
So your mind can be open
and given the clarity to see

In every point of view
there are thoughts one can hate
But these negative ideas
do simple minds create

An independent mind
is free to see every side
All facts can be considered
giving liars nowhere to hide

By seeing some good
in what the opposition does
Is how the intelligent
learned to know what was

Every informed position
is closer to the truth
The older prejudiced minds
lost the power of their youth

The avenue to knowing more
instead of knowing less
Is taking the high road by listening
it is likely the best guess

Listening makes one wiser
so when it is time to choose
The more intelligent mind
will have far less to lose
