False Witness

False Witness

A Poem by Sam Freeland
"

asking for trouble

"

When you don't know
its not wise to explain
Before you know the truth
you sing a false refrain

Seeing only the dark side
exaggerates the crime
Better to believe the best
this and every time

A reputation for truth
makes a witness stand tall
When not part of one's past
nothing is believed at all

Any reason there is to lie
is evidence of guilt
The truth will be found out
a case against you will be built

Those who live with truth
have nothing to hide
In most every situation
people will be on your side

The years to build a reputation
are worth far more than gold
Many ancients have said this
no one should need to be told

If you cannot be convinced
of what so many have found
A poorer life is ahead
now and every time around

Since you have just read
this plan for what to do
Wisdom will be your guide
to enjoy the honesty too
