Wake Up

Wake Up

A Poem by Sam Freeland
"

overeaters

"
By the time you feel the pain
your body has been in a stew
Something is wrong with your brain
its unaware of what you do

Your wonderful experiment to live
is suffering more than you know
You have chosen to be asleep
now pain is telling you so

Its very hard to believe
when the food tastes so good
That you could be hurting yourself
by eating a little more than you should

Its the pleasure of a gourmand diet
that is part of the siren's song
The convivial joy of overeating
means you won't last very long

The reason so many anti-acids
are available in every form
Big Pharma knows we need them
because we eat beyond the norm

The message should be clear
too much food is harming our health
Restaurants and food providers
know food is the source of their wealth

Even with a lower price and giving more
they make more profit in what they sell
It is really not their responsibility
when we choose to be unwell

The clarion call just may be heard
by those who want to be saved
They could start with a sensible diet
instead of eating like the depraved
