Poems help you face

the life that you have led

the truth of the facts

an honest mind will not shed

 

When you write for yourself

there is no one else to fool

no point in prevaricating

that would surely not be cool

 

To find the words for any poem

you must search your entire mind

the words that are selected

need not be very kind

 

Since they are the truth

that an honest mind can believe

making up a story

would only yourself deceive

 

To make sense with words

is never an easy task

though the honesty in your poem

comes readily from your past

 

You lived those days with pleasure

or the facts you could not recall

hiding the truth from yourself

means you had no worth at all

 

If you are brave enough to begin

you will soon start to find

the pleasure from the effort

being enjoyed by an intelligent mind

 

Don't ask how I know this is true

you would not understand my reply

these words were written for myself

I am the only one who knows why
