TV Fare

TV Fare

A Poem by Sam Freeland
"

and its effect

"

Now I know why
reading is no fun
it lacks the excitement
of a man with a gun

It used to be for me
an exercise of the mind
I had time to think about
what next I would find

The story's plot was subtle
there was room for me to think
television is so overwhelming
my mind is on the blink

Since I could never compete
with the fare they have for me
I am numbed into silence
waiting for what is next to see

The seeing is a kind of dope
and we can't wait to get some more
a truly addicting experience
our mind keeps waiting for

It is hard to believe
others don't feel this way
letting excitement control our mind
and taking us in sway

The dumbing down of mankind
is giving in to what others know
when there is no work involved
we let our ignorance grow

There is no magic in what I write
but there is something to gain
at least I am free of the commercials
that are driving everyone insane

Your thoughts are the only beauty
your mind can call its own
if you give it a chance to develop
your understanding will have grown
