The Bells

The Bells

A Poem by Sam Freeland
"

will ring

"

There is nothing exceptional

in the poems that I write

though often misconceptual

 you can't miss the bite

It is deliberately there

and intentionally cold

as a rebuttal to liars

who need to be told

Without our critics

abusers would be free

to attack with self-interest

not only you and me

We need to be aware

of what they plan to do

mortgaging our future

and other crimes too

When citizens are mute

shady dealings become fact

if allowed to continue

freedom can't remain intact

Not knowing what to do

is the normal state

criminals hope this is true

as they seal our fate

Being not concerned

about what lies ahead

one must be looking forward

to soon being dead

Should this have happened

when we were young

we might not even be here

to hear the tolling bells rung

I think this is really good. It had a nice flow to it. Great job!
