The Loss

The Loss

A Poem by Sam Freeland
"

for many

"

When earning power is down

you can see it in their eyes

coupled with a serious frown

and thoughts so full of whys

They never did suspect

their loss would happen so fast

with the unhappy surprise

and a hope it would not last

The truth can be hard to swallow

when it bodes not well for you

as you struggle and follow

those not knowing what to do

So easy to join the crowd

of those feeling the hurt

with many being ground down

to the level of the dirt

As we look around we can see

what some have managed to do

they spend their hard-earned wealth

and get to laugh about it too

Knowing a little history

one can certainly understand

what is happening everywhere

has been the law of the land

Humans being animals

always compete for what is best

nothing is likely to change

for us and all of the rest

Because few have learned to save

for the times not being good

there is little help for the millions

who failed to act as they should
