The Family

The Family

A Poem by Sam Freeland
"

and over-population

"

Birth Order

Why is birth order so true

as it conditions what you do

also widely reinforced

by others who make choices too

The first child is there alone

dependent and given praise

a child who will rule the turf

even if there are more to raise

To carry on the Name

as so often you have seen

this child will learn the game

from the parents until a teen

That is certainly long enough

to gain control of the scene

this power is just the stuff

that gives this person steam

The next in line will know

every day and every year

they need to listen to their leader

so they have less to fear

A mindset giving power

to the first who controls the land

the parents have become too busy

happy to have a supporting hand

An only child is king

who reaches out to the world

bravely carrying the family flag

which is every day unfurled

The larger the family grows

unless this has happened before

it will be subject to worldly blows

unless wealth has been put in store

If wealth has been achieved

this family will acquire fame

wealth is what the powerful have

as well as a recognized Name

When parents learn this truth

they need to consider what they do

their choices will determine

what in the future will be true

Failure to be aware

may mean a dependent family

waiting for outside help

from others don't you see

The result is everywhere

in a world so very poor

without much of a future

that they will have to endure
