Being

Being

A Poem by Sam Freeland
"

a leader

"
If you need to ask
would copying someone satisfy?
Doing it you would only bask
in the glow of a lie

Being glad who you are
should be welcomed by you
So much better by far
and much simpler to do

You are what you have become
in the years that have passed
It is worse than being dumb
not to try to make it last

Others know who they are
it is you they want to change
Their success will only mar
and diminish your range

You have found a good solution
by reading what wise men wrote
Let no limited fool's intrusion
ever try to get your vote

Remembering those many friends
who have helped you find success
Forget those who only offend
their efforts will give you less

In the days that lie ahead
there are many good things to do
Like many wise men you have read
you can enjoy doing it too

When someone wants you to change
ask them if they have tried it too
Don't let them give you pain
it is only what it will do
