A Child's Future

A Child's Future

A Poem by Sam Freeland
"

is at stake

"
The battle for equality
is a very noble plan
it is often just too late
to affect the life of any man

After years in the making
 everything stays in line
natural tendencies control
changes take a long time

The early scenes of life
made you what we see
if you are seeking any change
your mind will disagree

The well known saying
about making a silk purse
from only a sow's ear
is an attempt that is worse

Not only the child's genes
but what parent genes do
will make everything for the babe
the plan the parents knew

If this comes as a surprise
you may be ignoring the cause
possibly not being very wise
and aware of human laws

So what are we to do
in our quest for what's not true
find a path for a smaller change
the child will be happier too

Concentrate on how they feel
a better plan for their success
the life they then will live
will give them more than less

Very nice thoughts, instead of pushing and prodding a child to be what you want them to be, you give them to the chance to be who they will be.

My mother always said do your best that is all that I expect of you. I will always be thankful for those words, instead of those parents that drive their children to despair instead.
