How We Learn

How We Learn

A Poem by Sam Freeland
"

by what others do

"
Our parent's success
in our effort to learn
will be more or less
due to their concern

They get the first chance
to help the person we become
what we learn in the early years
is much more than just some

An infant knows little
of what there is to know
but the effects of parenting
will continue to show

The behavior of our child
will improve with every year
if we continue our efforts
to help guide our little dear

There is no way to know
what the future will be
if our efforts were a benefit
we will someday see

The way we continue parenting
may have an even greater effect
the way we conduct our lives
our child will likely select

As every year goes by
youngsters will seek change
give all the help you can
to give them a wider range

When our child has grown
we can be glad about what we did
they will soon get their chance
to show the way to their own kid

Like growing a garden, taking care of our flowers, they grow to beauty, and when they reach maturity, they spread their seeds and create more again. More beauty in this work that started from the gardener's own hands.
