Sleep

Sleep

A Poem by Sam Freeland
"

without drugs or pills

"

Sometimes hard to achieve

with your very active brain

your left brain keeps singing

its exciting refrain

Your left brain will cause

you to toss and turn

that is usually because

you have something to learn

Use your active left brain

to give the action to the right

so that your right brain is able

to give you a good night

Your right half may succeed

in reaching dreamland

with its calm look at memories

and little of your demand

To learn how to do this

means you will need to try

with some serious practice

it must be obvious why

Learning anything worthwhile

requires you will have to give

the necessary effort

to find a better way to live

If you believe this will work

without taking drugs or a pill

you can go to sleep in minutes;

learn it and I know you will

My tension diminishes

when my right brain is in charge

letting me sleep in peace

for me the gain is very large
