Our War

Our War

A Poem by Sam Freeland
"

for survival

"

Where humans look forward
to a life of only forty years
they can become a powerful army
causing an enemy serious fears

If you have not considered this
you have missed today's news
we are now engaged in a battle
with youthful warring crews

The young can be brainwashed
to believe they won't survive
unless they fight for their country
to help their family stay alive

Our society is now decadent
becoming more obese and lazy
giving everyone a future
that is little more than hazy

In a world where life faces
serious problems to survive
we need to change our ways
for any hope to stay alive

It is well known from history
that cultures who win wars
live on to own the future
and play their own encores

No one ever believed
that decadence would win
if we continue our behavior
our chances are very thin

Very thought provoking, makes one think, hopefully they listen too.

Nice sentiment, well expressed although in a couple of places the rhymes felt a little forced. Sometimes its better to simply say what you mean than pick a word that rhymes but I loved the flow and it said a lot about the way Americans feel about where they are at. Well done. XXC
