Ship of Fools

Ship of Fools

A Poem by Sam Freeland
"

bail or sink

"
The Cruel Sea

We did our best
to sink the boat
now please help us bail
and maybe stay afloat

A few words of wisdom
for those who care
change how you live
or you will never get there

Many choices exist
in what you can do
conspicuous consumption
should not be for you

Go to the library
read a good book
drive an old car
eat food you can cook

It won't take long
if you stand on your own feet
facing your own problems
and staying upbeat

It is your own choice
to find how to survive
take responsibility
for being alive

When more will join
in intelligent action
we might look forward
with more satisfaction

Where you come from is gone, and where you thought you were going was never there, and where you are is no good unless you can get away
