A Beginning

A Beginning

A Poem by Sam Freeland

words that fall like gentle rain
 from a loving poetic mind
may help one to sustain
a life of trying to be kind

when every act of love
says the muse is there inside
though being a bit too bashful
to give their writing a ride

the effort is so easily denied
by reading what others can write
what should be happening instead
is to try sharing some of their light

 thoughts expressed in rhyme
speak of a gentle kind of love
letting an understanding reader
feel the softness of a velvet glove

everyone has a beginning
of the best they learn to do
when simpler efforts are chosen
they are seen as much more true

if some day you choose to start
the words will say you are brave
and no better way to be seen
telling of the loving that you gave

friends will share with you
the joy you had from the write
so tell them you'd like a review
giving you both greater insight
