Passion

Passion

A Poem by Sam Freeland
"

a human dilemma

"
The powerful drive
known so well to man
helping us stay alive
for as long as we can

An essential part of life
in all forms that exist
not only for man and wife
but for all others on your list

We bow to its demands
and its power over us
without it would we survive
to live a life with less?

As we search for meaning
in our life so complex
with passion we are leaning
toward the enjoyment of sex

Since evolution resulted
in a bisexual form
our ancestral passions
have become the norm

Humans who found religion
embrace a passion for God
you would not be wise
if you thought that was odd

As you surely know
humans also cause war
their passions get misused
and death occurs much more

We must learn to control
the passion we feel
and somehow find a life
that is more ideal
