The Key

You were given a key
to open the door
so you would see
that life could mean more

 

Those who gave the key
you must not forget
what you still owe them
is a significant debt

 

As you ponder the past
which you so often do
all the mistakes you made
tell a lot about you

 

You know that errors
happen all the time
a part of sincere efforts
certainly not a crime

 

But know the worst error
would be to ignore
those who gave their help
and keep giving you more

 

Each person exists
carrying life given with love
we all should remember
what came from above

 

As you continue your climb
to a future of success
be sure to take some time
to help those who have less

 

You should pass the key
to those you cared for
the help you gave them
will mean so much more
