Requiem for David

Requiem for David

A Poem by Sam Freeland
"

a genius lost

"
For those who don't understand
what David Wallace had to do
they need to succeed as he did
to realize what it was that he knew

There are several other writers
who have chosen what he did
it was the same necessary evil
in the pattern of how they lived

He had reached a superior level
much younger than most who did
but the depression that he lived with
wasn't something that he could rid

The more that one fulfills
the goals that they chose
the sooner they may come to the end
with a disturbance causing a close

When excellence is what you share
more will be wanted from you
by helping others with your care
they will want to do what you can do

From this there is great pleasure
to be had by those who give
but they may become exhausted
reducing their will to live

The younger the writer is
he may be more surprised and pleased
but honor received over a longer time
will be handled with greater ease

No one ever knows
what the future will hold
genius is far more difficult
while being ever so bold

Please try not to judge
what others choose to do
just try to make better choices
in what you want for you
