Our Future

awaits what we do

History is our hindsight
should tell us what to do
many with their own motives
want something different for you

 

When they can bury the past
the facts will be forgotten
they will control the future
no matter if it is ill gotten

 

Though poets may try to remind
in their own ineffectual way
what the future has in store
the truth will not be very kind

 

History is seldom followed
by the powerful in control
the same is true for the controlled
many just don't want to know

 

The fate of the future is unknown
is what the lawyers will say
that is how they get what they want
you know they will have it their way

 

What should thoughtful persons do
knowing what history can warn
if you know let everyone know too
before we experience forlorn

 

In the past history had an answer
maybe that is what we should do
spend the present with our friends
and wait for the turn of the screw

 

If you think this answer is wrong
remember there are only a few years
to live the best way that you can
enjoy it and forget the fears

Don't remember who said it but "one had to know where he has been to know where he is going" is how I read this piece and how true that is. Sadly though our history has been twisted to be poliitically correct.
