Polemics

Polemics

A Poem by Sam Freeland
"

are winners the losers

"

the polemics of preachers
their need to be right
thinking they are teachers
having so little insight

this being the case
of the narrow mind
as they try to keep pace
with others of their kind

the outspoken join in
finding it a fertile field
like so many of their kin
they have no wish to yield

controversy is the name
of the battle they love
being the best part of their game
as they give you a shove

make of it what you will
when their choice is control
concern for others is nil
agreement is not their goal

surely you can see
not caring like they should
is not what it should be
and will come to no good

this insanity must end
having already lived its time
with more caring we can send
a way to stop their crime

Hi Sam,

This piece is really great. The lines are nice, compact and forceful. It really does a wonderful job of condemning the "powers that be" and their ultimately irresponsible drive for power. The use of propaganda to achieve that end can sometimes be so insidious as to be looked past, only to have a day come where an ideological metamorphosis has occurred. It seems like we are the precipice of that now, and it is actually a frightening thing to think about. As long as we have people who can articulate the dangers we face when we allow ourselves to be deceived by those criminals that claim to have our best interests at heart, we may just be able to stem the tide.

Thanks for sharing.
