the days ahead

the days ahead

A Poem by Sam Freeland
"

the only life we will ever have

"
when the days of our life
are filled with so much pain
the music this brings
is not a pleasant refrain

 many hours are lying ahead
that would seem right to kill
but its not the best solution
for those long days to fill

since pain is at home
somewhere in the mind
it is daily refreshed
though never being kind

with any choice you make
about what you want to do
you are facing a struggle
and that is nothing new

since one cannot know
where it all will end
we still have those hours
to find a way to spend

changes we all must endure
some varying from our plan
one thing we know for sure
the best of us will say they can

by trying to ignore the pain
its a better choice to do
 finding someone you can help
could bring some joy to you

I couldn't agree more with the undertone of this piece. When we put our pain upon a shelf, in an effort to help someone else - their pain is our gain - and our gain is full joy....

Nicely penned...

This one struck a nerve! When I first read this I had to stop; and I wonder, though you don't know me, how it was you could speak so directly to me. But then I realized that at times I dwell too often selfishly on my own pain. I simply failed to see beyond myself and think of how many others have their own pain. So, thank you, for reminding me!

Well done!
